flower backgrounds

I worked on a bunch of stamped flower backgrounds the other day while waiting for my car repairs. Here's a couple of cards I made with the flower backgrounds! Those are Hero Arts stamps-- leaves and flowers--one is the reverse stamp. These 2 are favorites I've been using a lot lately!

Vintage image collection

Another thing I collect is vintage images. I'm hoping to share some of my favorites here too. This one is a Jessie Wilcox Smith Good Housekeeping magazine cover for June 1930 --I love her paintings of children and flowers especially!

Collections-Wade ware

I have been intrigued and delighted looking at collections of vintage objects on other peoples blogs so thought I would start sharing some of my own collections here. Here's a picture of some of the recent additions to my collection of Wade ware ceramic animals and a cute little cottage house. The blue and white dog reminds me of my lab mix Emma but is not made by Wade. From: http://miniatures.about.com/od/collectibleminiature1/qt/wadewhimsies.htm
  • Wade Whimsies are - miniature porcelain figurines which have become highly collectible. Originally conceived as pocket friends for children they are a widely traded subject for collectors of all ages and budgets.
  • Produced from 1954 - 1959 as small boxed collection sets, many were distributed free with packages of Red Rose Tea beginning in 1967 in Canada and continuing with collections in the United States from 1983 until the present day (the current collection 2007 - is Noah's Ark with 14 animals as well as Noah and his Wife. The collection for 2006 was the Pet Shop Friends series of ten pieces and a display stand)

Staycation?

Is that a new word? Anyway, I have a couple days off work and am enjoying it! Working a little in my craft room today--organize, organize, organize--it's a never-ending project! Hope to get out to an antique mall sometime in the next couple of days. And maybe see a movie--Letters from Julia? The above photos are recent: a wildflower/weed in my yard called Philadelphia fleabane (Thanks, Marian!) and a pretty peonie in my brother's garden. I want to get back over to my brother's garden soon and take a few pictures of a peonie that came from my aunt's garden and before that my grandparents! It wasn't blooming last week when I was there. I love peonies and am so glad they have kept the family heirloom one!

Margy's garden

I went to visit Margy and her garden the other day. Here's a couple of teaser photos--I'm going to upload a lot more to my flickr site this weekend but couldn't wait to post a couple here: Margy and Gypsy, one of the cats, and Margy's favorite iris from her neighbor's garden.

Birthday card and Fiskars paper trimmer

It's my baby brother's birthday today and I wanted to show off the card I made him. He wanted some plants for the yard for his present this year so I decided his card should have some plants on it too. It's hard to tell from the picture but I heat embossed (white) the images for the inchie squares and then inked them with chipped sapphire and shabby shutters distress inks. The inchie stamps used are from 2 different sets of stamps from Inkadinkado--Flourishes and Flower garden.

I also wanted to mention a new paper cutter I bought this week at JoAnn's--it was on sale--40% off! Jennifer McGuire mentioned it recently on her blog and I've been looking for a new one and thought it sounded perfect. It's by Fiskars --Premium Cut-line Trimmer. It is wider than my old portable trimmer-the main part goes to 6 inches and with the side arm up it measures up to 15 inches of paper! Also the other thing I liked is that the measurement numbers are under acrylic so they shouldn't rub off after many uses like my old one.

Roxie's card

My good friends Marion and Rick lost their beloved Roxie this past week--and here's the sympathy card I'm sending. She will be missed. I made a little dog book for them a few years ago with pictures of the dogs they had at the time--here's Roxie's page too. It's hard to see on the pictures but I used some Rock Candy distress stickles on the dog angel wings -if you click on the picture to see it larger you can see it a little better.

new hydrangea

I took a few photos of my new hydrangea this morning. Still need to find a pretty pot to put it in. Isn't it glorious? I can't get over the fact that it has 3 different colors of blossoms on it! It's called Twist and Shout.
